Sailing yacht AMUNDSEN is off on her maiden voyage to the Falkland Islands, named after the famous polar explorer Roald Amundsen. The yacht has an overall length of 23.5m (77’1”) and is the second hull in the Pelagic 77 range – a sistership to VINSON OF ANTARCTICA.

She has been constructed with an aluminium hull and superstructure and features naval architecture by Tony Castro who has created a yacht with two carbon masts designed to evenly distribute her sail area. Inside, she offers a dedicated pilothouse and spacious salon with galley and can accommodate up to eight guests in four suites.

She is an evolution of her sistership with an updated propulsion system with eco-friendly engines aimed at minimizing environment impact. The result is a yacht with exception performance and sustainability.

Eeuwe Kooi, founder of KM Yachtbuilders: “This project represents the collective effort of an incredible team, united by a shared spirit of adventure and a dedication to innovation and sustainability.”

Skip Novak, directly of Pelagic Expeditions, who will lead AMUNDSEN’s adventures says: “The decision to build a sister ship for the Vinson of Antarctica was based on the success of this design concept. This yields valuable projects that contribute to education for schools in Chile and Spain. These include a north-south crossing of the Atlantic Ocean to the southern hemisphere, where the Vinson now calls South America its home territory.”
