Looking for a midsize Downeast yacht that’s Great Loop ready and family-cruise friendly? Simpatico, a 2013 Sabre 48 Salon Express Yacht has two staterooms, plus a cabin, accommodating up to five guests. Simpatico is on the market with Grand Banks for $725,000.

“Sabre is one of the masters of building classically inspired DownEast designs that incorporate modern styling details. Combined as a whole package, these details create a timeless, elegant, yet contemporary design. The proportions of the 48 work perfectly, in my opinion. The tumblehome of the transom flows seamlessly into a deck with moderate shear, which benefits from a cabin house design that is absent of any harsh 90-degree angles,” Yachting previously reported.

Powered by twin 550 hp Cummins 8.3L diesel engines paired toCMD Zeus 3800 pod drives with integrated steering and trim, Simpatico reaches a top speed just over 32 knots, but dial it back to a 27-knot cruise speed for a range around 315 nautical miles.

When reviewing a previous Sabre 48 Salon Express, Yachting explained that “Zeus is the azipod drive system developed by ZF and Cummins MerCruiser Diesel, and Skyhook is the wonderful feature that allowed us to hold station. The magic comes from the built-in GPS that communicates with the computer governing Zeus’s behavior to hold the boat captive within its coordinates-give or take a few feet. No less thrilling is the way these pods enhance the 48’s maneuverability, at planing speed and in tight quarters, when the speeds are so slow that conventional rudders become useless. Although this system lacks the feel of a traditional cable-operated system, it is quick and positive, even in reverse. In the docking mode, Zeus’s joystick lets you move the boat forward, backward, and sideways.”

Owners can easily board Simpatico from the swim platform and via the portside transom door. Relax in the cockpit’s forward-facing, L-shaped settee with folding table to starboard or on the aft-facing bench-style cushioned settee. Want to enhance your tan? Layout on the foredeck and enjoy a little alone time. Stainless-steel handrails and non-slip fiberglass soles are a few safety features provided to keep guests comfortable while cruising. For those who seek a little more adventure, Simpatico has an upgraded Freedom lift that secures a 11’4″ Boston Whaler tender that can shuttle guests to a private beach for lunch while the kids swim.

Simpatico’s pilot house is covered by a fiberglass hardtop with large windows on each side allowing natural light to illuminate the area. An open-air environment can be created when opening up the door and windows to the cockpit area, or keep it enclosed and take advantage of the A/C or heating system. Two Stidd leather captain’s chairs sit at the helm with an L-shaped settee adjacent on the port side, allowing guests to join the captain while cruising. Abaft the helm station in the salon is an L-shaped dinette with a folding table  to starboard with a bench-style settee that adjusts forward to complete the dinette to port. Guests have the option to enjoy a meal inside the salon, or have an alfresco dinner in the cockpit.

  • CMD helm with joystick
  • Trim tabs integrated in CMD Zeus pod drives
  • Autopilot integrated in CMD Zeus system
  • Skyhook GPS position hold system with dedicated GPS receiver

Down five wooden stairs from the helm station is Simpatico’s galley. Cold goods can be stowed in the refrigerator/freezer while dry goods and galley accessories can be stowed in drawers and stowage lockers below the counter.

After a long day on the water, owners can retire to one of two staterooms located forward of the galley. The master stateroom has an island berth with an en suite head. The wood grains from the teak-and-holly sole up to the cherrywood ceilings glow and are offset by light-colored fabrics. Stow your personal belongings in drawers beneath the berth, drawers in the bulkhead abaft the berth and two hanging lockers. The VIP stateroom has a centerline island berth wth an en suite head. Guests can stow their personal belongings in drawers, drawers under the berth, stowage lockers and shelves. An additional crew cabin is available with a full-sized berth that could be used for extra stowage space, or maybe a room for a teenager seeking a little privacy.

Grand Banks stated, “Simpatico is a beautiful example of the popular 48 Sabre Salon Express. From 2013 to 2020, Simpatico was kept exclusively in freshwater (the Great Lakes) and stored indoors for six months of the year. In 2020, the boat came to Florida with her second owner and was only used from November to March each year, then stored inside a climate-controlled facility for the rest of the time. Having been kept on a stringent maintenance regimen and only exposed to the environment for half her life, Simpatico shows much newer than her age.”

Where is Simpatico located? The yacht is currently lying in Stuart, Florida.
