Night Bird, a 2001 Viking 61C Enclosed Bridge, is a built-for-speed battlewagon. The business end of this sportfisher features a 170-square-foot teak cockpit with a rocket launcher and stowage for a tournament’s worth of mullet, ballyhoo and Spanish mackerel. Night Bird has yacht-level accommodations for eight guests in four staterooms. This sizable sportfisherman is on the market with HMY Yachts for $799,999.
“The 61, like her sister, the 55, should help reinforce Viking’s prominent position as a builder of production convertibles and open models that reflect popular trends in custom fish boats. The 61’s crisp performance, clean profile and generous appointments are all-American, with no hint of changes some other U.S. builders have made to broaden appeal in the cruising-based international market,” Yachting previously reported.
The salon has a U-shaped sofa with stowage, teak-and-holly sole, a Samsung flat-screen TV and a spiral staircase to the enclosed flybridge. Courtesy HMY Yachts“There’s a clear view of the cockpit from the tournament-style helm control pod, and a clever notched windscreen design improves visibility across the foredeck. Side-mounted, single-lever controls and power-assisted hydraulic steering deliver pinpoint accuracy to make charging through an inlet or backing down on a blue marlin a snap.”
Night Bird has been well maintained with myriad upgrades (see below), which has kept this pelagic puruser in tip-top shape:
Powered by twin 1,480 MTU 12V2000 diesels, Night Bird hits 38 knots while streaking out to the fishing grounds. The 61C’s 1,800-gallon fuel capacity allows multi-day trips to the deep. Recent improvements include new raw- and fresh-water pumps, new main exhaust risers and rebuilt Twin Disc transmissions (2024). Two new generators-20 kW Northern Lights and 21.5 kW Onan-were installed in 2024.
The cockpit, partially shaded by the flybridge, has a teak rocket launcher with drawer, mezzanine seating, equipped with a freezer and refrigeration step (new compressor, 2024), and SeaDek flooring that was added in 2021. Fishing enthusiasts will appreciate the undermounted fish boxes, transom fish box plumbed as a livewell, and on-deck raw-water feeds for additional wells, a great setup for live-bait sailfish-tourney aficionados.

Night Bird’s salon has also been updated with new carpeting, lighting and headliners. Guests can relax on a U-shaped sofa with a hinged stowage compartment and a hi-low teak coffee table while watching the big game on a Samsung flat-screen TV. Natural light flows in through a bevy of windows and illuminates the salon, galley and dinette. The teak-and-holly entryway sole, paired with high-gloss teak valances and upholstered window treatments, highlights the luxe design. An internal spiral staircase offers quick, easy and stylish access to the flybridge.
Accommodations include four staterooms, including a king-berth master suite with cedar-lined lockers and an en suite head with a stall shower. Courtesy HMY YachtsNight Bird’s galley and dinette is forward of the salon. The galley has a low-profile island with Sub-Zero refrigeration units with six drawers, complemented by molded Corian countertops and an undermount sink. A concealed cooktop, Sharp Carousel convection microwave and Kenmore trash compactor allow owners to prep just about any type of meal, large or small. Updates here include teak-and-holly sole (2020). The adjacent dinette offers a U-shaped seating arrangement with a hi-low table, which is ideal for pre-fishing meals with the team.
After a long day of pulling on marlin, owners and guests can retire to one of four staterooms. The owners’ stateroom has a centerline king berth with stowage for personal belongings, a new mattress and bedding and his-and-hers cedar-lined hanging lockers. Catch the rest of the game or watch your favorite move on a Samsung TV with LG Blu-ray player. The head includes a mirrored medicine chest, Corian sink and stall shower with a glass door. The VIP has a centerline queen berth, new bedding (2021), flat-screen TV with Blu-ray player (2022) and private head access.
