Outer Reef Yachts—based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and known for building go-anywhere yachts that owner-operators can run with or without crew—has announced a strategic merger with the Dutch shipyard Lynx Yachts.
The merger is expected to help Outer Reef grow its presence in Europe and worldwide. Plans are for an expanded Outer Reef product line, with the Lynx build management team being integrated into the Outer Reef team.
“Expanding our presence in the Netherlands and integrating the highly regarded Lynx Yachts management team into our operations marks a significant milestone for Outer Reef Yachts,” Jeff Druek, CEO of Outer Reef Yachts, stated in a press release. “This partnership aligns perfectly with our commitment to innovation and quality, enabling us to meet the growing demand for adventure yachting across Europe, the United States, Australia and beyond.”
According to the team at Outer Reef, the merger followed a year-long evaluation of European shipyard options, assessing procedures and methodologies. This process included on-site visits to yards across Europe, including Turkish and Dutch facilities.
Under this new alliance, the European shipyard will operate as Outer Reef Yachts – Netherlands.
The first yacht, currently under construction at this facility, will be the Outer Reef Yachts Adventure 780, which is scheduled to launch in February. This vessel will mark the beginning of a new chapter for Outer Reef, as the shipyard embarks on the construction of a range of models from 78 to 141 feet length overall.
How long has Outer Reef Yachts been in business? Since 1996. Prior to that, Druek worked in the commercial fishing industry on Long Island, New York; served in the U.S. Merchant Marines; and started a custom home-building company that grew to employ 115 people. In 1996, he decided to build a 60-foot yacht. Its quality led to numerous purchase offers, and the experience inspired him to become a professional boatbuilder.
