IYBA Launches Yachtr.com

The International Yacht Brokers Association has launched a database of yachts and boats for sale. It’s called Yachtr.com.

Powered by Yachtbroker.org, Yachtr gives brokers a new option to list their yachts, and consumers a way to browse those listings worldwide.

Yachtr is the result of several years of software development backed by industry associations and led by the IYBA.

Consumers can search by category: motoryachts, cruisers, fishing or sailboats; by broker; or by yacht manufacturer.

There’s also a blog called “From The Bridge” with educational posts about sea trials, hiring captains, boat insurance and more. Consumers can subscribe to receive new blog posts via email.

Boat owners who are interested in selling a vessel can connect directly to brokers by searching the broker’s name, city or ZIP code.

There is also a boat-show component to the website. Ahead of the recent Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, users could click on “FLIBS Line-Up” to see boats for sale that would be on display at that show.

“Yachtr is taking control from private enterprise solutions and putting it back in the hands of the community,” Paul Flannery, chief operating officer at the IYBA, stated in a press release. “We have heard concerns from our members, and we believe that Yachtr addresses and solves the challenges that current listing sites present.”

Currently, the company that dominates online boat listings is Boats Group, which owns Boats.com, Yachtworld.com, BoatTrader.com and more.

In its first 30 days, Yachtr listed more than 14,000 boats and yachts from 285 brokerages, according to the IYBA.

“We want to provide a platform that is accessible to all, and inherently fair in its approach to displaying listings,” Flannery continued in the press release. “Yachtr is and always will be an industry resource, meant to better serve our community and the needs of the boat buying and selling public.”

What is IYBA? It’s the world’s largest association for the yacht brokerage and charter industry. Established in 1987 and formerly known as the Florida Yacht Brokers Association, the IYBA is involved with professional standards, educational conferences, networking opportunities, dispute resolution and more.
