US Sailing is encouraging female racers of all ages to apply for the Glenn Lattimore Grant Program, which provides financial support for travel and registration fees to any 2025 US Sailing National Championship. Grants typically range from $200 to $1,000.

Applications are open now, with a deadline of August 31. Selected grantees will be notified in September and will need to submit an IRS form W-9 prior to receiving funding. More information and applications are available on the US Sailing Foundation website.

The program honors Virginia Glenn Hill Lattimore, a trailblazer in women’s sailing. In 1956, Lattimore and her four-woman team won the Adams Cup, the United States Women’s Sailing Championship, marking the first victory for a team from west of the Alleghanies. Lattimore competed successfully against both women and men, and spent decades supporting sailing as a race official, trustee, and organizer.

“Through her efforts and influence, hundreds of young sailors were able to experience high-level racing,” the foundation notes. “Glenn’s legacy combines talent, humor, and hard work, leaving a path for others to follow and give back to the sport.”

Female sailors planning to race in a 2025 US Sailing Championship are encouraged to apply soon to take advantage of this opportunity to offset the costs of competing at the national level.
