DATE POSTED:October 21, 2024

The world’s first fuel-celled superyacht PROJECT 821 from Feadship has been spotted on her sea trials near Amsterdam, after her launch earlier this year. The 118.8m (389’8”) project was designed by RWD and stores liquid hydrogen on board and uses a fuel cell source to generate electricity for the hotel load and coastal navigations.

In addition to her innovative propulsion system, she is also the largest motor yacht ever launched in the Netherlands with a volume of 7,247GT capable of accommodating up to 30 guests in twelve suites. The owner’s apartment comprises two staterooms, twin bathrooms and dressing rooms, plus a gym two offices with ambient fireplaces, a pantry and lounge. She also includes fabulous amenities like a semi-submerged Neptune lounge, cinema, library and an 8.2m contraflow pool. A basketball court sits proudly on the bow deck.

Feadship 821 spans five decks above the waterline and two below, and is fitted with 14 slide-out balconies, five shell doors, and seven opening platforms. Her interiors are adorned with a neutral colour palette paired with textured fabrics, leathers, marble and rattan plus fumed and taupe eucalyptus and limed oak.

On board PROJECT 821 the cryongenic fuel tank holds 92m2 (4 tonnes) of hydrogen which is enough to power the hotel load – the most carbon heavy impact. For longer crossings or when pure hydrogen is not available, power can come from MTU generators which combust HVW – a second-generation biofuel which reduces emissions by 90 per cent.

Superyacht PROJECT 821 is due for delivery in 2025.
