Apreamare in Sorrento, Italy, has launched an enclosed version of its Gozzo design: the Gozzo 38 Cabin. The yacht follows an open version and is evolved from the Apreamare Gozzo 35, which made its debut in 2023.

The idea behind the Gozzo 38 Cabin is that boaters can use it to go cruising all year round, thanks to a helm and salon that can be fully enclosed to protect the skipper and guests from the weather. That space can also be opened aft with doors to the cockpit, creating an indoor-outdoor entertainment zone on the main level.

Styling on the Gozzo 38 Cabin includes a nod to the traditional looks that Apreamare has had since it began building boats in 1849. The new vessel was conceived by Cataldo Aprea and designed by Marco Casali, along with engineer Umberto Tagliavini.

According to the shipyard, this model expands the internal spaces compared to the Gozzo 35, and affords greater protection and habitability on deck, making the Gozzo 38 Cabin ideal for multiday cruising in every season and nearly all sea conditions.

“The Gozzo 38 Cabin embodies the perfect synergy between advanced functionality and impeccable aesthetics,” Giovanni Aprea, sales manager of Apreamare, stated in a press release. “Thanks to the extended platform, and a sinuous and enveloping deckhouse, this model not only preserves the iconic elegance of the Sorrento gozzo but introduces contemporary design elements designed according to the needs of the modern navigator.”

Owners have a choice of power: twin 270-horsepower Volvo Penta D4 DPI sterndrive engines that the builder says produce a top speed of 30 knots with a 25-knot cruise, or twin 320-horsepower Volvo Penta D4 straight-shaft diesels that drop those figures to 28 and 23 knots, respectively. At cruise speed with either power package, range is a hair above 200 nautical miles, according to Apreamare.

Hull No. 1 of the Gozzo 38 Cabin is expected to cruise in Northern Europe, where the owner intends to use the boat all year round. The model’s public debut is planned for the Cannes Yachting Festival and the Genoa Boat Show, both of which are scheduled to take place in September 2024.

What’s a classic Sorrentine gozzo? It’s a style of small wooden boats from this region of Italy that was originally used for fishing, and that advanced over time to add more creature comforts and features for cruising.
